Chaos – A selection of images from our #ThursdayTheme

This week’s #ThursdayTheme was chaos. ‘In the midst of chaos, their is also opportunity’ (Sun-Tzu) and I’m sure we have all felt slightly chaotic at one point in our lives!!!

Our #FridayFoto was this chaotic theme from Casey Barlage – well done Casey!

Here’s what Julie had to say about Casey’s image:

“I’m not sure I could love this any more. I was chatting to someone last night who was telling me they don’t like that there is so much manipulation of photos these days because it’s not ‘real’ and ‘honest’.

Whilst I appreciate that opinion – I certainly don’t understand it. Surely painters have been manipulating reality since time began? Photography is about so much more than just capturing what is in front of you – it’s about expressing yourself and conveying an idea or concept. And the fact that we can do all sorts of magic in photoshop these days just means we can now show so much more than what the eye could see. Which is exactly what Casey has managed to do here.

Where do I even start? The dog’s face is as good a place as any – that expression! He’s like ‘What the hell is actually going on in here??’ The up-ended toys, the crazed sword-wielder in mid-air. But it’s also the attention to detail like the open cupboard door with a hint of chaos inside and the littered floor. And of course Zen Mother escaping from it all!

All stitched together brilliantly (must have been a nightmare!) I know you said you had higher hopes for it Casey but I think its an absolute triumph. Chaos indeed – I can relate!

Weather – A selection of images from our #ThursdayTheme

So this week’s #ThursdayTheme is all about the weather – the world’s favourite subject!!! The standard was super high which made it a tough decision but, after liaising with Michael Carver, Julie decided that the #FridayFoto would be this absolute CORKER from Lone Kiter!

Here’s what Julie had to say about Lone’s image:

“For me it’s the colour and texture in those angry, purple clouds leading us down so well to that dramatic flash of lightning. What a moody, frightening and epic shot. The power of nature, right?

Michael Carver put it better though. He said a lightening shot was on his bucket list. His words were . . . not only do you have to be patient and prepared but you only get a split second to catch the shot. There’s no adjustment of settings to try again if you miss it. It encapsulates the beauty of landscape photography in that its caught a split second in time – a second before or after and it wouldn’t be any good.

Fabulous shot Lone Kiter – thanks so much for sharing it!”

Night Photography – A selection of images from our #ThursdayTheme

Happy New Year!  Julie and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the very best for the forthcoming year, we hope it’s as fantastic as you are!

It’s January and here in Scotland the nights are long, very long! But just wait until you see some of our truly awesome night images, you’ll be blown away!  Our friend and fellow tog, Michael Carver, kindly selected our #FridayFoto for us and he chose this beauty by Russell Bain! Well done Russell, this is well deserved.

Here’s what Michael had to say about Russell’s image:

“I love how those car light trails meander round the side of the loch and take your eye out to to the glowing colours of the sunset. A cool shot that takes a lot of skill (and probably patience waiting on cars to pass). The shutter speed and aperture would have had to be just right to judge the length of exposure to catch the trails over the full length of the road and nail exposure for the ambient light. The letter box crop really helps the composition too and i love that transition gradient from orange to blue – two colours that contrast really well.

Great shot Russell and well done to everyone else who entered too – a tough choice but this one edged it”.
