Tranquility – A selection of images from our #ThursdayTheme
We asked to see your ‘Tranquil’ images for last week’s #ThursdayTheme . It’s been lovely looking through your photographs, they certainly evoke a feeling of peace and harmony. Enjoy!
Our #FridayFoto this week is this absolutely stunningly tranquil image by Char Ronster. It was chosen by our resident expert and friend, Michael Carver.
Here’s what Michael had to say about Char’s image:
“It’s Bodiam Castle in East Sussex and I’ve seen countless photographs of it, it’s a popular spot for photographers and you can see why. Although I’ve seen a lot of shots of this castle, I haven’t seen many as good as this, ok….I haven’t seen ANY as good as this.
Look at it!
The colours, the reflections, the misty atmosphere, the composition. The conditions looked perfect and you have certainly exploited them to get the most of out your shot Char. It’s a beautifully balanced exposure with lots of details in the shadows and great colours. It’s timeless too – this shot could of been taken yesterday or hundreds or years ago (although I doubt cameras would be sophisticated enough to take shots like this hundreds of years ago – “Ye Olde Nikons” just weren’t up to it lol).
Anyway, it’s an amazing shot and one any photographer would be proud of. That’s the thing with popular spots, even though other photographers have been and had a crack, it’s always worth going to get your own take on a location, you just never know what the conditions will be like and if you are lucky you’ll come home with something of this quality.”

Purple – A selection of images from our #ThursdayTheme
Purple is a pretty funky colour. It is steeped in mythology, legend and history. Did you know that the colour purple has sent men to their deaths?! You can read more about that right here. But in the meantime, check out these amazing purple images!

Here’s what Julie had to say about Gary’s image:
“Someone who clearly knows colour and light like the back of his hand. Both are used so expertly here.
That purple dress is made for a photo shoot, right? But teaming it with that stunning auburn hair is just a visual treat. The skirt almost looks like it’s alive. I love the textures there.
My eyes are taken up the dress to the gorgeous model’s face and her downcast eyes take me right back down again and around. Such great composition and posing!

Conceptual Photography – A selection of images from our #ThursdayTheme
Last week we asked to see your conceptual photography images. Conceptual imagery is basically the manipulation of images. The image will often seem unreal, be it an illustration of a story, a dramatic moment or even something very simple – conceptual photography should always bring a smile to your face, a good conceptual portrait should never leave you indifferent.
#FridayFoto this week comes to us from Michelle Wright!
Here’s what Julie had to say about Michelle’s image:
“At first glance I wondered why an image of cliffs had been entered under the theme of ‘conceptual’ and then realised what I was actually looking at!
I then questioned whether it really fitted the category but then I thought about the message I was getting from the image. The idea that from one perspective someone or something can appear so small and insignificant but, from another, can appear so imposing and strong.
I love that you saw this with your eyes Michelle and knew what you could do with it. It’s not something I’m good at so I really admire it!
There’s a real peaceful but powerful feel to this image. It has set me up perfectly for my weekend.”
