Great Food Photography: December 2016

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… and it certainly is when you see this week’s blog. I love, love, LOVE Christmas, it’s such a special time of year and so I’m super excited to share this week’s fantastic images!

This week’s festive #FridayFoto was captured by Kellie Benich!

Here’s what Julie had to say about Kellie’s image:

“This image is RIGHT up my street. Full of atmosphere and contrast and bursting with emotion and magic.

This could have been exposed in so many different ways but, for me, you’ve chosen the best exposure Kellie. I love that you’ve allowed us to view the snow scene outside the window and presented the indoor scene in shadows and silhouettes.

There is just enough light hitting the little one to give some rim light which separates her from her brother – superb. I love the subtle fairy lights and hints of colour in the scene and the reflections and shadows on the floor.

There is lots to love here. This made me feel massively festive and nostalgic and helped me remember what Christmas is really about instead of the ENORMOUS list of things I always feel like I need to do and remember at this time of year…”

Toy Cars – A selection of images from our #ThursdayTheme

Last week we wanted to bring out the child in each of you and I think we succeeded! #ThursdayTheme was ‘Toy Cars’ and who knew that toy cars could be so fascinating and eye-catching! I think you will really enjoy looking through this weeks images, they really are captivating!

Our #FridayFoto is close enough to a toy car, right? Merry Adrian this is so cool!

Here’s what Julie had to say about Merry’s image:

“I love the creativity of this shot. I am so drawn to how atmospheric it is. I know it sounds silly (because they’re toys after all) but the whole scene feels quite real!

It was great reading how you wrapped some fairy lights around some branches to light your scene from behind. The low level of the lights has given you a brilliant trio of silhouettes to the left of the tank and some great light reflections on your shiny kitchen worktop. To me it looks like a military base at night time.

Superb job Merry – I really enjoyed soaking this scene up!”

‘Cosy’ Images – A selection of images from our #ThursdayTheme

So for last week’s #ThursdayTheme we asked to see your ‘Cosy’ images and boy, did you deliver!!!! I have absolutely loved looking through everyone’s cosy pictures and I have to admit it’s put me right in the mood for Christmas! Is anyone else feeling all festive now? Well, it is December after all – yippee!

#FridayFoto is this cosy creation by Ange Murray!

Here’s what Julie had to say about Ange’s image:

“A TRULY successful image makes us feel something. Well this gave me ALL THE FEELS!

Not only does this image fit the theme to perfection, it is so brilliantly composed. I love the lower perspective Ange – it makes this image feel so real like I am lying there right next to them. I just love that you have left some room above them for that hazy light from the sun. The closer hand could have been a real distraction but actually the shallow depth of field means it’s not and actually acts as great foreground for your subjects. Everything just fits into the frame perfectly for me.

The yellow hazy light is divine and soft and dreamy and just works so well with the scene.

But what about that scene?! That’s really where the magic is. I feel so emotional looking at it. I remember those blissful moments well. It is so authentic – that exhausted sleeping pose leaning on one arm at a jaunty angle and I love that I can see the skin creases in the other arm.

If I had a photograph of me with my baby like this I would TREASURE it like you wouldn’t believe.
