How to Capture Fantastic Photos of Rainbows

Passion – A selection of images from our #ThursdayTheme

Last week we wanted to know what your passion was and it was lovely looking through such an array of diverse images – “Purpose is the reason you journey, passion is the fire that lights your way.”

Our #FridayFoto was captured by Ferenc Fapál Jr.

Here’s what Julie had to say about Ferenc’s image:

“This image is all about the moment for me. It’s the expression on the subject’s face, his closed eyes, those hard-working fingers. This is passion for sure.

I can’t help thinking that this musician wouldn’t care where he was playing, who he was playing in front of or what they thought of his music. He knows why he plays. That’s all that matters.

Nice black and white conversion on this too Ferenc. I really don’t think this would have been as strong in colour.

Thank you for sharing this with us.”

Can’t Develop Photos in Lightroom or Camera Raw on a PC? Here’s the Workaround for the Bug

I had a colleague call me the other day… turns out that he and his wife couldn’t get Lightroom to develop any pictures.  After several steps of troubleshooting (including reinstall) he gave in and called Adobe.  A week later Adobe published details that their machine was not alone. What’s the Bug? Several Adobe customers report…

Photomatix Pro Version 6 is Now Shipping

I’m super excited that a new version of Photomatix Pro is now shipping.  The application is a welcome update that adds a bunch of useful features that make it easier to start and finish your HDR photos.  My favorite aspect is that the application truly focusses on natural looking HDR. What is Photomatix Pro? In case…

Mirrorless Camera Maniac: There’s An App For That

New Gear, Need it? or Want it?

First, let me admit that I am a gear hoarder. I have whatever I could possibly want in cameras, lenses, grip and lighting. When an idea hits, the gear to make it into a photograph is right at hand. Here’s the thing. I am beginning to believe that a simple kit is a better kit. I remember…

Portrait Tips: You Should Be Photographing Models

Much of the photography you see daily, from internet ads to magazines, includes a model. A model is simply a person who is in a picture for a purpose. Maybe the purpose is to sell something, maybe it’s to practice being a model, maybe it’s to practice making pictures. Whatever the reason for the picture, I…

Create Keynote or Powerpoint Templates with Ease in Photoshop

I was recently asked to create a Powerpoint template for someone and soon realised that with a few Photoshop techniques creating, editing and creating individual assets was a breeze. To keep the whole thing as flexible as I could I used Artboards, Smart Objects and Create Assets. In this video I show you how to…

Yellow – A selection of images from our #ThursdayTheme

We have had blue, green and orange so now it was time to make our #ThursdayTheme yellow.  From the minute this theme was published the standard of images was extraordinarily high. Thank you so much to everyone who took part and got involved.

#FridayFoto was so TOUGH this week!! In the end though, we settled on this beauty by Samantha Nicol.

Here’s what Julie had to say about Samantha’s image:

“This image gives me an instant feeling of calm. It makes me relax into my chair and just breathe. It reminds me that even when the world around us seems chaotic and intense and overwhelming – there is also absolute serenity to be found if we just look for it.

The simplicity of this scene is what makes it so special. The square crop is an unusual one but it’s interesting and I like it a lot.

Add to that the softness of the low sunlight, the ghostly backdrop and those stunning, golden tones and you have such a strikingly gorgeous image.”
