Reflection Photography – A selection of images from our #ThursdayTheme

A selection of reflection photography

Our #ThursdayTheme last week was reflection photography. This type of photography uses reflective surfaces to capture exceptionally beautiful and standout images and you guys certainly managed this!

“Art is not a reflection of reality, it is the reality of a reflection”

-Jean-Luc Goddard

He’s done it again! Our #FridayFoto this week is from Kev Parker!

An orange and blue kingfisher flies off the surface of a pond leaving a reflection on the still water.

Here’s what Julie had to say about Kev’s image:

“I have so much respect for you wildlife photographers. The patience you must have is beyond me. But it certainly pays off when you catch a moment like this one.

Obviously this couldn’t be more perfect for the theme with that stunning reflection. But I also love the rich colours and the shallow depth of field.

What a beautiful capture Kev – thank you for sharing it with us!

Thank you so much for all your contributions.

A selection of home photography

They say “home is where the heart is” but a home is not always just about four walls or simply where you are from, it is where you belong. Some people travel the whole world to find it, others find it with two eyes and a heartbeat. It’s a powerful blog this week.

#FridayFoto is from the amazing Laura Elizabeth Wood.

Little boy with blonde hair sitting inside a wardrobe reading a book with a string of lights behind him.

Here’s what Julie had to say about Laura’s image:

“There is no mistaking Laura’s work. Obviously the adorable model helps me to identify it but she also has such a distinctive style and I never fail to stop scrolling and take in every detail of her images.

Not only is she a fabulous photographer, she is also so generous with her knowledge and time. Always willing to share how she works so others can benefit and quick to praise and encourage those around her.

There is so much to talk about in this image. I think the first thing I am struck by is the warmth and magic. It’s just inviting me in! I start with that beautiful face bathed in beautiful light and looking so completely angelic but when I can eventually drag myself away I start looking around the rest of the frame.

And as always, Laura knows how to set a scene. She has this way of including what some might describe as ‘clutter’ and making it enhance the image enormously. I love looking around at the knick-knacks in the room. I love that the other wardrobe door is open revealing bits and pieces on the shelf. It makes it for me.

Thanks for sharing your images with us Laura!”

Adobe Releases Lightroom Downloader App to Recover Images from Cloud

When Adobe announced their new cloud-based Lightroom CC app, one concern I had was that images weren’t downloadable.  The initial launch said this feature was coming soon. Well, fortunately… the wait is over.  Adobe has released its Adobe Lightroom Downloader app. What is It? The Adobe Lightroom Downloader app is to download all your Lightroom photos and videos…

Red Photography – A selection of Images from our #ThursdayTheme

I’ve spent an enjoyable morning looking back through all our #ThursdayTheme blog posts and I’m in awe of the talent we have in this group! We’ve had purple, yellow, orange, green and blue so it was only a matter of time before we saw your red photography. Have we had all the colours of the rainbow now? I’m sure we could still have a few more!

#FridayFoto is this lovely bit of macro from Cheryl Toepfer!

Here’s what Julie had to say about Cheryl’s image:

“Don’t you just love how macro can make the most everyday subject look totally other-worldly?

I love how my eye is drawn into that pop of yellow on the thirds and then moves around to take in the entire image. The blurred red foreground works really well to give the image so much depth.

It’s such a rich and dramatic photograph yet it’s so incredibly simple.

Gorgeous work Cheryl!”

Horse Photography – A selection of images from our #ThursdayTheme

Selection of horse images

Who knew that horses could be so striking and elegant, well our #TeaBreakTogs did! This has to be one of the most impressive collections of ‘Horse Photography’ you will ever see. Prepare to be wowed (again)!

#FridayFoto is once again from Char Ronster!

Here’s what Julie had to say about Char’s image:

“This was incredibly difficult this week. I had five up on my screen and was going between them for a while. In the end I opted for the one that I couldn’t find fault with … at all!

There’s no escaping that dreamy golden light. I love the rim light that’s separating this magnificent horse from the background and showing us the movement in the mane and tail hair.

Those tones! The colours in this image are all so similar but it works so beautifully because of that gorgeous direct light giving us contrast. The whole scene is so rich and warm and inviting.

I love that you have given your subject space above and below Char and your off-centre placement is perfect in my opinion. You’ve chosen your background brilliantly. I’m so glad there is no bright sky to distract us from this gorgeous horse.

Just a beautiful image. Thank you!”
