Must-Know Portrait Lighting Patterns and Tips
The word ‘photography’ is the fusion of two Greek words, phōtos and graphé, together meaning ‘drawing with light’. And...

Master Black And White Contrast In Your Monochrome Photos

Action – A selection of images from our #ThursdayTheme
Our #ThursdayTheme last week was all about the action shots. Check them out!
#FridayFoto is this action shot from Stefano Calderan which was chosen for pure impact.
Here’s what Julie had to say about Stefano’s’s image:
“When I asked Stefano to talk us through his lighting for this he showed us the ‘before’ shot which was taken at the beach in bright sun. This is actually a blend of three different images! If you’d like to have a look – check out Stefano’s page.
There are some photography snobs around who turn their nose up at those who create their finished piece like this using photoshop. They don’t understand why a photographer wouldn’t just try to create their vision ‘in camera’. I say they simply don’t understand the definition of ‘creativity’. Imagine we all had the same methods and visions? Who’s to say that epic photography skills are more worthy than epic photoshop skills? **steps off soapbox**
I love this image. It’s a fabulous creation. The action, the colours, the expression, the story. Whether you stop to drink in its fabulousness OR pick holes in the photoshop skills (you’ll struggle) – you still stopped, right? That’s what it’s all about.
Thank you Stefano Calderan for sharing this with us all!”

10+ Tips to Improve Your Forest Photography
I live in the core of the Boreal Forest in the interior of Alaska. Also called the northwoods, or the northern forest, mine is a landscape of often spindly spruce trees, quaking aspens, and birches. Endless opportunities for forest photography abound. And while it is not a landscape that immediately...
